Golden rules for sports betting
A small handbook for beginners in sports betting It is often said that betting is nothing more than a variant of the lot – a “pure gambling“! This, however, is a – by some intentional – wrong assessment. In Austria, for example, sports bets are absolutely not considered, even from the legal point of view, as a game of chance, but rather as a game of skill. In short, it is a game in which, if you know how to do it and if you have a certain skill, you have the chance to win in the end.
With sports bets you can get interesting secondary income, but it is very important to proceed calmly and absolutely avoid trying to win too much money too soon! This may seem strange, but with sports bets, in the long run, you can only win when you have gained some experience. It is very important, therefore, that at the beginning of a career as a sports bettor the bets are low, even if you could allow you higher amounts (see rule 1 for sports bets). A fundamental principle, which also applies to bets, is “knowing is power“. For this reason we have grouped the most important information on sports bets on this page. Our goal is to give you a consultative overview of everything that revolves around sports bets, so as to optimize your winnings.
The 7 golden rules for sports betting
Rule number 1
In your sports bets you only bet those amounts that do not create problems in the event of a loss. Always think of the worst case scenario, so that you can calmly and rationally analyze and place winning sports bets. Who bets under pressure, or with the weight of possible debts, usually loses.
The rule number 2
Knowledge is power, even in sports bets and this is because, unlike the lottery, one can very well estimate the outcome of one’s bets. Anyone who has informed in advance has a good chance, in sports betting, to predict the right result of a game or other interesting events. It is necessary, for example, to examine how the most recent direct comparisons between the two formations have ended. Are any key players possibly injured or disqualified? Does the team come from a positive or negative series? Has the coach just been replaced? All this can prove decisive for a result and for this reason we should take some time first to gather the necessary information. Do not trust those statistics that you have not distorted by yourself? In sport we can ignore this way of saying because, in this case, the statisticsthey rarely lie, even if this obviously does not mean that it can never happen. It is no coincidence that, for example, we talk about favorites and outsiders : teams that play at home often have a much better chance of winning a game. This is statistics, this is a fact.
The rule number 3
Low odds promise a minimal risk, but at the same time also a minimum win. Consequently, it should be assessed whether the minimum winnings are related to the amount wagered. Many sports betting enthusiasts always make the mistake of betting on those who are clearly favored, and the odds are therefore low. However, even the net favorites can have a setback more often than one might think, and this happens more times than it appears on the odds.
Rule number 4
It would be better not to always rely on bookmakers’ odds : it often happens that these do not reflect the actual performance of the opponent. Especially in the less-followed events it can happen that the net favorite is linked to incredibly high odds. It is therefore worthwhile to read up.
Rule number 5
When you bet, you should try to stay objective. This concerns above all the matches of the favorite team: it is better to avoid betting on it because only very few fans manage to remain truly objective.
Rule number 6
Friendly matches are unpredictable and should therefore be avoided. You can never predict how the players will take the match seriously or if the coach might decide to let his best players rest. Cup matches also have special laws. Often the favorite teams collapse because the outsiders play beyond their means. Consequently, the ranking in the individual championships need not necessarily be a criterion for placing a bet in the Cups.
Rule number 7
Do not place bets only on a betting site, but create accounts with some of the best players, at first maybe 3 to 6! In this way you continue to have a good overview of your betting accounts, but you can also choose which of the chosen bookmakers offers you the highest odds on the bet you are going to place. However, avoid making the mistake of choosing only on the basis of the odds and therefore placing a bet on a betting site that is not 100% serious.
